Airsoft Guns

In the 1970s it was illegal to own a gun in Japan. It was perfectly acceptable, however, to own a replica of a gun. Thus, the airsoft gun was born. An airsoft gun is a facsimile of a true weapon, but the airsoft gun used compressed air to fire plastic pellets rather than bullets. The airsoft guns were increasingly popular in Japan for target practice and then more combative games were developed to utilize the airsoft guns.

Airsoft Games

The idea of airsoft games originated from the military-style games popular with children, in particular boys.. A weapon as realistic as an airsoft gun that does not actually cause harm represents an open invitation for combative games. And when the airsoft games began, they grew enormously until they spanned the globe.

The majority of airsoft games today resemble a capture the flag game. Two teams face off in opposition with the goal of infiltrating the enemy camp and capturing the flag of the opposing team. Airsoft has a tremendous element of trust, however. Unlike its cousin paintball, airsoft games do not leave a mark on an individual, This means the combatant must be honest about being hit to play the game fairly.

Other versions of airsoft games have no goal other than to be the last man standing. The games have become increasing complex with trenches, combat gear and a myriad of airsoft weapons available to purchase.

Advantages of Airsoft Guns

Airsoft guns have distinct advantages over traditional weapons. While it’s unlikely you’ll go to battle with an airsoft gun, at home or at play, airsoft guns stand alone as your best option – especially if you’re teaching a child to use a gun safely.

Airsoft guns aren’t especially dangerous. Handed to a toddler or shot pointblank, an airsoft gun can cause substantial damage, but fired at a respectable distance as the guns are in airsoft games or target practice, there is no harm that will come form the weapons – especially when you’re outfitted in protective clothing.

Airsoft guns are great training aids. It’s scary to teach a child to shoot using a real gun, but with the sophistication of airsoft guns, you can teach a child the basics of shooting a fire arm and use the guns for target practice without as much concern. Airsoft guns are not toys, however. No child under the age of eighteen should handle an airsoft gun without supervision.

Airsoft guns are completely legal. There are increasing rules and regulations about firearms throughout the United States. Airsoft guns aren’t considered firearms, however, and are legal to buy and own in all states. There are some age restrictions, however, so be sure to check the legislation in your state.

Airsoft guns are fun. Owning a firearm is fun when you hunt or take it to the range, but outside of those two activities, you have limited options. An airsoft gun, however, can be used for many more recreational purposes. Use it for target practice and for games. Avid airsoft players have clubs and fields they use every weekend for games making airsoft and collecting airsoft guns a terrific hobby.
